The AYA Philosophy

KNOWN

Every young person should experience being genuinely known.

We seek to understand their strengths, interests, communication, relationships, educational history and aspirations.

UNDERSTOOD

  • Behaviour communicates.
  • Withdrawal communicates.
  • Anxiety communicates.
  • Refusal can communicate.

Rather than responding only to what we see, we seek to understand what may sit beneath it.

Understanding is not the absence of boundaries.

It helps adults respond thoughtfully and effectively.

SUPPORTED

Support is intentionally designed around individual need.

This may include adaptations to teaching, relational support, therapeutic input, pastoral intervention, structured routines, family partnership and collaboration with other professionals.

CHALLENGED

AYA is compassionate but ambitious.

Young people should not have their future limited because they require additional support.

We therefore combine understanding with appropriate challenge, helping pupils move progressively towards greater achievement, resilience, independence and responsibility.
