Welcome to AYA

A Different Kind of Learning Community

Young people do not all arrive at school by the same route.

Some come to AYA following disrupted education, exclusion or repeated difficulties within mainstream settings.

Others may have experienced anxiety, trauma, difficulties with relationships or emotional regulation, or reached a point where a larger educational environment is no longer enabling them to flourish.

At AYA, we begin somewhere different.

We begin with the young person.

We seek to understand their strengths, experiences, needs, interests and aspirations before determining how best to support their education.

This is why our philosophy is simple:

  • Known.
  • Understood.
  • Supported.
  • Challenged.

Small by Design

Eight Pupils.
Individual Journeys.

AYA College has a registered capacity of just 8 pupils.

Being small is not a limitation of our model. It is one of its strengths.

Our size enables us to know pupils well, build meaningful relationships and respond carefully to individual need.

The Tree of Life Methodology™

  • Rooted in Strength.
  • Growing in Wisdom.
  • Flourishing in Purpose.

At AYA, we believe a young person’s story should be understood through more than difficulty or diagnosis.

The Tree of Life Methodology™ helps us recognise identity, strengths, relationships, hopes and achievement — creating a framework through which young people can understand where they come from, recognise what they carry within them and begin to imagine what may be possible.

It reflects our belief that every young person can grow when they are rooted in belonging, supported by safe relationships and encouraged towards purpose.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing

Every young person has the right to feel safe, be listened to and know who they can speak to when something is wrong.

Considering AYA?

Three AYA Commissioning Pathways

Three Pathways. One AYA Approach.

Longer-term specialist education for young people requiring a small, relational and therapeutically informed learning environment.

A structured 6–12 week therapeutic education and reintegration pathway for young people whose education has become disrupted or whose current placement is becoming unstable.

Earlier, flexible intervention designed to help schools and Local Authorities support a young person before difficulties escalate into placement breakdown.
